An independent study course allows a student—in agreement with and guidance from their professor—to pursue a topic of interest that doesn’t necessarily fit into a traditional academic curriculum. Students gain research experience in their field of interest and can delve deeper into a specialized topic.
All students registering for individualized independent study or experience credit must make arrangements with a faculty sponsor prior to registration.
Completed Independent Study & Experience Credit Forms
The Independent Study Proposal form must be signed by the faculty sponsor, the department chairperson in which the student is taking the course, the student’s advisor and the dean of the students primary college. The completed ISP must accompany registration. Graduate students do not need the dean’s signature.
- During the fall and spring semesters, College of Professional Studies students should return the signed above-mentioned forms to the College of Professional Studies.
- During the summer, all students should return the signed above-mentioned forms to the College of Professional Studies.
