Undergraduate Programs
If you are interested in earning a bachelor’s degree or undergraduate certificate from Syracuse University part-time, you will need to complete an admissions application. We will consider your entire background when making an admissions decision.
Admission applications are reviewed on a continuing basis, so you can submit an application at any time.
Application Checklist
In addition to the information needed on the application, please be prepared to submit the following items along with your application:
- Personal statement (250-500 words)
The personal statement will be used to demonstrate writing ability as well as to provide information about goals, interests, and values. This statement helps us become familiar with you as a person and student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself. Select your own topic or choose from the sample prompts provided.
- Resume Details of your professional background, skills and accomplishments.
If you do not have a resume and are apprehensive about the process, a list of experience, volunteer work, achievements, etc., is appropriate. Resumes do not need to follow any standardized format or be of any specific length.
- ALL official transcripts*
- Official high school transcript required only if you have less than 12 college credits.
If you have not attended any college or have taken less than 12 college credits, you must submit an official high school transcript or GED or TASC transcript, regardless of when you graduated or earned your certificate or diploma. - Official college transcripts required All applicants must submit college transcripts for all institutions attended. Syracuse University transcripts do not need to be submitted.
- Military-Connected Applicant Transcripts
Depending on military status, the materials needed for the application may vary. Please submit the following documents:- National Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans submit either DD-214 or NGB-22 form with application.
- Active Duty Personnel submit a copy of their most recent orders to verify active status.
- Military Transcripts: Air Force and Space Force service members order CCAF/Air University transcripts to be sent directly to Syracuse University. Service members from other branches order a JST to be sent directly to Syracuse University.
- Official high school transcript required only if you have less than 12 college credits.
- An admissions consultation is a required part of the application file and will be set up after submitting your application. For faster service, email your availability to parttime@syr.edu.
- The application fee ($85) is non-refundable. If you need an application fee waiver, please email your request to parttime@syr.edu.

Official transcripts must be received directly from the academic institution or evaluation service, either electronically or via mail in the original sealed envelope. Electronic transcripts are considered official if delivered securely through an organization authorized by Syracuse University. Official transcripts are required from all previous colleges. Syracuse University must have all transcripts regardless of poor grades, withdraws, etc. Official transcripts are good for one year from date of issue.
HEOP applicants will be required to provide proof of New York State residency and academic and economic eligibility in addition to the requirements listed above. An academic advisor will contact you after you submit your application to determine the specific additional documents required.
International applicants may be required to provide proof of English Proficiency. If you have completed academic work outside the U.S., you must provide official academic credentials as well as English translations of the documents. If only one document is available, we will accept notarized or certified copies of the original document. If translations are needed, it is your responsibility to have the credentials translated by a reputable translation and evaluation service. A key to the marking system or grading scale should also be included if it is not indicated on the transcript. All international transcripts must include an evaluation, even if the document is in English, indicating what the equivalent academic work would be in the U.S. The service should send the results to the transcript address indicated above.
Applicants who have done Advanced Placement work must have their official test scores sent to the College of Professional Studies as well as their other transcripts.
Additional materials may be required under certain circumstances or for certain commuter programs, such as portfolios for certain Visual and Performing Arts programs. An admissions team member will contact you if additional materials are needed beyond what is requested on your application.
Additional guidance on applying to an online credit certificate
- To be admitted into an online credit certificate program, you need to have completed 30 or more college credits.
To be admitted into an online part-time minor
- Must enter program no later than first semester of your junior year. Minors are open to Syracuse University undergraduate students with the approval of their home college.
- To be admitted to the program, students must submit a Declaration of Minor form to their academic advisor, the Bachelor of Professional Studies Academic Director and their home college Dean’s office.
Graduate Programs
If you are interested in earning a master’s degree or Certificate of Advanced Study from Syracuse University part-time, you will need to complete an admissions application. We will consider your entire background when making admissions decisions. Note that GRE/GMAT is NOT required.

In addition to the Application Requirements listed above for Undergraduate Applicants, Graduate Applicants must also provide two letters of recommendation. If you have graduated in the past three years, one reference should be academic, the other can be professional. References may not be the applicant’s family members. The application will require each recommender’s first and last name, organization, position/title and institutional/business email address. Once these have been saved to your application, the recommender will be emailed requesting a recommendation letter. You can provide a personal message to the recommender which will be included in the email.
