As a new student, here is some important information to prepare you for a successful start.
- A Syracuse University I.D. card is required for access to some buildings and services on campus.
- Blackboard is an online instruction tool used in many classes. You will need to become familiar with the tool.
- Your Syracuse University e-mail account is the official form of communication at Syracuse University. Important information related to your academic success will be sent to this e-mail account; you will need to monitor it. For more information on how to access your e-mail account please visit Information Technology Services website
- Know what textbooks are associated with your class(es) before class begins.
- Submit your immunization records prior to the start of the academic semester.

Activating your NetID
Access to the University’s computing network and services is controlled by the NetID and password. You should activate your NetID as soon as possible. Management of your NetID and password is performed on the NetID self-service page .
Permanent Syracuse University ID Card
Your Syracuse University I.D. card will serve as your official University identification and will give you access to the library privileges, computer clusters, shuttle buses, and athletic facilities. To request your permanent ID card you must be registered for classes.
YOU MUST REQUEST YOUR PERMANENT SU ID CARD WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS OF THE TERM
Applying in Person:
Bring a form of photo I.D. for identification purposes with you to 111 Waverly Ave. Information is available at 315-443-2726 or on the web at http://housingmealplans.syr.edu/ . Do not attempt to apply in person for your permanent ID card until one week before the first day of classes.
You may e-mail your photo submission immediately after completing your registration. Your ID will be mailed to you so please make sure to have an accurate address on your record. Review your address via MySlice.syr.edu once you have activated your NetID.

Course Textbooks
Go to http://bookweb.syr.edu/ and click on Books tab
- Under Find Textbooks click on Search Textbooks
- Select a term, i.e. Spring 2016
- Choose course and section you are registered for
- Course will appear under Your Schedule
- Click on Find Books
- Textbooks will appear (if ordered by instructor) listed as required or choice with prices for used(if available) or new
*WRT 105 And WRT 205 students: Do not purchase textbooks prior to attending your first class and
receiving a syllabus from your instructor.
Blackboard Access Information
- You will need to know your Syracuse University NetID and password to access your course(s) in
Blackboard.- If you do not know your NetID and Password, visit the Information and
Technology Services web site at http://its.syr.edu/netid/ or call 315-443-
2677.

- Use the links in the “Need Help?” box to familiarize yourself with
Blackboard™; Syracuse University’s online learning system.
- Use the links in the “Need Help?” box to familiarize yourself with
- Enter your SU NetID in the Username field and your password in the Password
field. - Click the LOGIN button.
- Click on a course link in the My Courses box to access a course in which you are
enrolled.
Contact the UC Online Help Desk if you have trouble logging into Blackboard or accessing courses in which you are enrolled.
Immunization Requirements
In accordance with state law, you must submit your vaccination records prior to the start of the academic semester. This includes proof of:
* Two Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations
* Meningococcal meningitis vaccination within the last five years and after the age of 16
Your Health History and Immunization Forms are due now. Once you create your Syracuse University Net ID and password, log in to submit your records using the Health Services Patient Portal.
Health Services is available to assist you in obtaining the appropriate vaccinations if you have not been vaccinated or do not have documentation of your vaccinations.
