Apply / Renew Financial Aid

If you need financial aid to cover your education expenses, applying for federal aid can offer a solution.

All students requesting financial aid must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year. All FAFSA forms must be completed online (Syracuse University school code is 002882).

In addition to completing the FAFSA, if you are a New York state resident, you may also apply for the NY Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) as part of your FAFSA or by visiting HESC.ny.gov. Please use the TAP school code 0985 to complete this application.

View Financial Aid Status Online

Keep track of your financial aid status online in the Financial Aid section of MySlice using your NetID. If you have not yet set up your NetID, do so at ITS: NetID Accounts. You will need your SUID number to set up your NetID the first time.

The Financial Aid section of MySlice is designed to keep you apprised of your financial aid status, display your awards and notify you of any requirements that are still outstanding. Plan to routinely check your To Do List to make sure you have fulfilled all filing requirements.

What does it mean if I am selected for Verification?

Verification is a federal aid eligibility requirement that involves the student/parent to verify elements into the FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office must verify the content on the FAFSA is accurate in order for a student to receive federal, state and institutional aid.

Reasons for being selected for verification include: being randomly chosen, the FAFSA was incomplete, the FAFSA contains estimated information, or the data provided on the FAFSA is inconsistent.

If you are selected for verification, a “To Do” item will be posted to your MySlice account. Submit the required documents as requested. Items not completed or verified will make a student ineligible for aid.  A student should check this list prior to each term and intermittently throughout the semester. Contact your Financial Aid Office if you have any questions.
