Financial Aid

We are committed to making a world-class education accessible to all admitted students.

Financial aid is offered in the form of merit-based scholarships, need-based grants and student employment, as well as student and parent educational loans.

What financial aid forms are required?
If you plan on attending, apply for federal and College of Professional Studies financial aid by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.

  • Syracuse University FAFSA code – 002882

How can I ensure that I am completing all required financial aid forms?
After you apply for admission, you’ll receive instructions for accessing your MySlice Financial Aid To Do List, the secure virtual gateway to life at Syracuse University. This portal will keep you up-to-date on the financial aid application forms and documents you need to submit to the Financial Aid Office. Check it often to stay current on requirements and deadlines!

How do I apply for a merit-based scholarship?
Merit-based scholarships recognize prior academic achievement and are awarded to eligible students at the time of admission. You do not need to apply for financial aid to be considered for merit scholarships; merit scholarships are awarded regardless of financial need.

Should I wait until I am admitted before I apply for financial aid?
No. Financial aid awards are made on a funds-available basis, so it is important for you to file by the deadlines listed in the Timetable and Checklist section of this brochure. We are able to provide the best service when you apply for financial aid at the same time you submit your admissions application. That way, when an admissions decision is rendered, we can begin awarding at the soonest possible time.

Will my financial aid awards renew annually?
It’s important that you file the FAFSA timely manner to ensure that you’ll be considered for all types of aid every year. If you meet all eligibility criteria, funding levels remain stable, and the information on your FAFSA does not change, your aid may renew in subsequent years.

However, changes in your family’s financial circumstances will affect your financial need and aid eligibility (for example, income, assets, number of household members attending college).

Students who fulfill all degree requirements and are eligible to graduate, but continue to enroll in Syracuse classes, are not eligible for federal or University funding renewal.

If corrections are needed after filing the FAFSA, how can they be made?
Corrections to your FAFSA can be made by visiting studentaid.gov

What if my family or I have special circumstances?
Special circumstances or a change in family circumstances should be reported to your financial aid advisor.
