If you don’t demonstrate financial need, there are student loans for which you may qualify.
Available Non-Need Based Assistance through College of Professional Studies
Unsubsidized Federal Direct Student Loans
The Unsubsidized Federal Direct Student Loan is designed for students who do not qualify for subsidized student loans based on sufficient financial need (but satisfy all other eligibility criteria). The terms and conditions are the same as Subsidized Federal Student Loans, except that the student must pay interest on this loan during in-school and deferment periods. Additional loan limits are available to independent students under this program.
Federal PLUS Loan (FPLUS)
A loan for parents of dependent undergraduate students or graduate students, this loan is not based on need. A credit check is required. Parents, or graduate students, may borrow up to the cost of education not covered by financial assistance. Visit Federal Student Aid for application information and instructions.
Alternative or Private, Educational Loans
Non-need based loans are for students whose financial need is not met by federal loans, who are not matriculated, are taking fewer than six credits, or enrolled in a certificate program. Eligibility is determined by student’s credit history. For information about choosing an Alternative (private) loan, visit the loan site at Syracuse University’s Office of Financial Aid .
